THE PROJECT

One began in the month of March of year 2004, international year of Sport, with the objective to give an important impulse to the practice of the sport of the ski and the equestrian sport for European young people affected of intellectual disability and cerebral paralysis, that is to say, with great problems of autonomy and mobility, to increase his quality of life. The primary target of the project is the elaboration of a Manual of Good Practices like support tool, direction and formation for the educators and trainers of the equestrian sport and the ski directed to people with intellectual disability and/or cerebral paralysis.

To traverse the experience obtained during these years by our associations in the sport with people with disability, we have stated that the practice of the sport contributes to an improvement in the quality of life and the physical and mental well-being of the person, also allowing a remarkable improvement in the rehabilitation process and socialization, where the figure of the educator and the trainer acquires a fundamental roll.

The practice of the ski allows an improvement of the physical abilities, the autonomy and social integration.

The practice of the hypotherapy and the adapted riding has important physical and psychic effects and contributes to an improvement of the communication abilities, being the horse a vehicle of mediation between the therapist and the person with disability.

Specific objectives:

- To determine the objectives of each practice of the sport with the person with intellectual disability and/or cerebral paralysis: its utility, the results, the applied didactic method, the search of the technical elements, the adaptation of the material. - Elaboration of the guide of reference, the instructions of use and the adaptation of the material to use, as well as of the accessibility of the facilities. - Compilation of all the process of work in a Manual of Good Practices for each sport, directed to the educators and the trainers who work in the sector of the formation and the rehabilitation of the people with disability, and more concretely with the intellectual disability and the cerebral paralysis. - Mutual Interchange between the trainers and the young people with intellectual disability and cerebral paralysis who practice the adapted sports. - Diffusion and publication of the manual for the practical use in the sector of the adapted sport.
